Artwork is often expected to be beautiful, showing only the best life has to offer, but artists and curators Annie Claflin and Ted Meyer are more interested in artwork that illuminates more complex aspects of the human condition. Trauma seeks out work with emotional punch and delves into multiple areas on this theme, showcasing a variety of visual narratives that examine physical and psychological wounds. Through visual and auditory artwork, this exhibit invites viewers to confront the impact of trauma experienced by the artist. Featured artists in this exhibition examine varied subjects such as war, sexual assault, and both physical and mental illness. The artists exhibiting in Trauma offer their personal translations of both visible and invisible wounds to communicate, educate, and reveal that art is not only a tool for expressing pain but also a vehicle for healing.
